Sorry if this has been asked before but are there any cable companies in this country not owned by virgin? I would presume there`s nothing to stop another company setting one up here? They would of course have to lay all their own cable as one would presume virgin wouldn`t allow a rival to use their equipment. And they would have to get the relevant permission from whoever.

The country is divided up into franchises where there can only be one cable operator. It just so happens that VM own most of them, following mergers and takeovers. It's similar to how ITV own most of the Channel 3 franchises.

I get where you're coming from. That information's not in the public domain yet so I can't provide a link. Hence I stated it as a presumption as oppose to a fact.

VM can't technically claim to have free HD anymore though surely?? Apart from BT sports the XL package is just basically a HD package now isnt it?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
While on the subject of On Demand nice to see a new service launching from the UKTV network (UKTV Play). You will not be shocked to learn they have no plans for it to be on VM, just Youview, Sky, and IOS devices.

Really?.. ITV HD was only ever a test channel showing helicopter footage of London and the odd episode of space 1999, it actually launched as a red button channel showing Champions League matches in HD via freesat.
If we are being really honest BBC HD was being tested on some freeview muxes at the same time as it was being tested on Telewest.
