Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Interesting,,,,, any guess as to the yellow bits,,,,, theres no one in our house and nothing switched on to use the internet apart from the Sky+ box, yet there are clear yellow bits which are usually indicative of use on my network.

Yet my network hasnt been used since about midnight last night???

minimum latency could be a tad better ideally but I suspect that is just Sky's interleaving?

Sky has no control over interleaving on Fibre.

Ive heard that, but do they have any control at all, specifically over things like max delays

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

I think sky can order profile resets. So they do have some limited control.

They also can ask for line faults to be investigated, since a line fault can cause interleaving to be applied they have indirect control in that way as well.

No, they can't. Only Openreach engineers can order profile resets, and they have to be physically on-site with a line tester to do it. Sky can only request an engineer visit, what the engineer does is up to Openreach.

The only thing they have control over is whether the line is put on Standard, Stable or Super-Stable profile(s). These are just different error thresholds for the application of rate-limiting and interleaving but none turn them on or off by themselves.

They have zero control over the fibre. Even standard Openreach engineers (including those that install FTTC services) have zero control over the fibre, and can't even access the FTTC cabinet.

That was told by BT BT engineer or openreach
What is the point to sell it if have not control? is not make sense selling something that can not control .... but you could be right here

About the FTTC cabinet they can access it

I am in London almost fibre cabinets everywhere (even here is one fibre around 60 meters away but i am direct to exchange together with about an other 70-80 premises)
I have seen many engineers be at various cabinets for installing people's FTTC ( i know because i was asking them questions even i did not know them) and have seen by my self they have both open cabinets (fibre & normal) and do works during instillation at both of them
Other case i have seen engineer just have open only one FTTC cabinet and the normal next of it close
100% sure

Since you can't tell the difference between engineers for two different companies you certainly can't make any claims about two different types of engineer for one company...

To make money. Same reason anyone sells internet services.

Define "they".

So some engineers can access some cabinets. It's pretty obvious and everyone knows that. I'm still not sure what your point is.

There's still no point in your statement... You're simply repeating a vague version of what I said.

Re: Think Broadband Ping Monitor Results (POST YOURS)

Yes My computer is running 24/7, running World Community Grid.

As for downloading no.

It has the same pattern wen the computers are Off for days, but I normally run them 24/7.

Could it have anything to do with the 2 TiVo boxs?
