The Football Association of Ireland, meanwhile, had their appeal against the red card O'Brien received in the 83rd minute rejected by FIFA and he is now subsequently suspended against the Faroes.
Television replays showed Greek referee Kyros Vassaras being conned by Israel goalkeeper Dudu Awat, who feigned being hit in the face by O'Brien when no contact was made, however, FIFA do not recognise video evidence.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
think they need to look into the rules here... not seen the match so don't know the inceident but if a replay shows no contact then it should be overturned and the other player should get a ban of at least 6 matches for cheating.. even the FA accept video evidence now
anyone see the Sky Sporting Legends show last night.. thought their list of players could have been alot better than the 10 they came up with

Althought I hate the club its a sad thing to happen to a club and I have the feeling he is only their to profit.

On the subject of Man utd what was the point of signing van der sar?
Everyone knows that he has passed it.
Is the club buying players in a panic

Yes, that does seem a bit strange, unless another keeper is also on the way to OT as Utd have just let two go out of the door.
Carroll and Ricardo.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
was reading that just to pay back the debt on the load he needs to make another 70-100m a year which i can't see happening.. the team on the pitch is in decline and needs rebuilding, but we don't have the funds to do this as we are in debt, and less people are buying club merchandise
Van Der Sar was a player years ago but look at him at Fulham hardly looked like a world classs keeper then,, punches the ball too much then it ends up in the back of his net.. maybe he could pass on some experience to Tim and help bring him on
Would have preferred Frey or Lustuvka really.. Still need to spend another 50 million on the midfield this summer which i can't see happening either

The whole point of buying Van der sar isnt for long term reasons, Ferguson has bought him to help Howard's confidence and hto hel him progress as a keeper.
It's obvious Ferguson has high hopes for Howard as he has signed a new deal until 2009 and he has let the other keepers go. He has wanted Van der sar for a while now and why not as he has won the Champions League, a UEFA Cup and four Dutch titles and lots of experiance from many different clubs.

Yep, the same reason why Fergie brought Blanc, to help Browns progression. Only Brown got injured and Blanc had to play a lot more games than was first intended.

Van Der Sar won all of those ages ago and is no where near as good as that anymore.. he hardly looked like a world class keeper at Fulham the past couple of years.. agree about passing on his expierience to Tim and hope he can pass that on and stay in the background

What a genius! What a business mind! Why did no one think of this before? To have a successful sports club you need to win. Amazing, I take it all back.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
my point was he said we need to win the prem and championship rather than the prem and champion's league.. Div 1 is now the championship so can't win both of them unless we get relegated
