Ferguson seeking new midfielder..........

Quote:
He said: "We are exhausting our knowledge of central midfielders in Europe, particularly one we can get on loan.
Eh ? Things must be tight, when was the last time utd had someone on loan ?

Makes sense if you're just looking a stop-gap. Plus Gill said there would be no major signings until the summer.

If he was an established midfielder, I'd have said someone like Hendrik Larsson. At his age I'm sure he wouldn't object to one last shot at top-level premiership football.

After a swift bit of reseach the answer was 1990 and the player was Les Sealey

Yeah, it was a heart attack a few years ago? He was only 43. I'll never forget the league cup (either that or the FA Cup) replay back in about 1990 when United's then-physio Jim Ryan checked him over after a nasty tackle and advised him to come off the pitch - Sealey looked like he was going to spark him out

FA cup final it was I remember it well. Played in the replay, after bandy legs Jim Leighton had a bit of a mare in the first game.

I'm sure that, that incident was in the 1991 League Cup final, not the FA Cup final.

He was only at UTD for a short while, but a hero while he was here (and not just for that)

After some research, we're all wrong lol.

It was in the cup winners cup final http://www.eastlondonhistory.com/sealey.htm

I'll always remember the start of the 1991 season, Les Sealey had left for Aston Villa, and Man U had signed Peter schmeichel in the summer. Everyone had heard about Schmeichel's ability to kick (and throw the ball) a huge distance, and just before the kick off, Les Sealey came and sat down next to the Man U supporters (me included) to watch Schmeichel's performance.

The Look on Sealey's face was a great moment, as he watched Schmeichel kicking and throwing the ball almost the full length of the pitch with comparitable ease. It was great that he had taken the time to sit with the Man U fans, and have a banter with us. A larger than life character, that will live in the memory of Man U supporters (and supporters of the other clubs he played for) sadly there are not many characters left like him in the game now. The link I gave above, says how he offered Jim Leighton his FA cup winners medal in 1990, a measure of the man I would say.

I'm afraid that, that link is wrong as I was at the cup winners cup final and it didn't happen then. It was at Wembley and I remember we were losing, which was the reason he didn't want to go off for. I remember watching it on tv.

I have searched Google and the only mention is in Wikipedia, which is word for word what is said above.
