Don't forget that on satellite Sky aren't responsible for uplinking the channel, they just have to allocate an EPG slot and the channel provider does the rest (in essence; I'm sure it's a little more involved than that), whereas there's a lot more for a company like VM or the other cablecos to do in order to add a channel, hence the negotiations as there are more costs involved for a cableco so they have to get a good price.

Are you saying that if VM were to say they would never add any more new channels you would be willing to accept that?,surely the more people air their displeasure on forums such as this the more VM must listen to them and hopefully act on the results.

l think as long as people don't troll on this forum everybody is entitled to their point of view whether other members agree with that opinion or not and If Virgin have their eyes are the ball then surely they will listen to all opinions on this forum.

Also universal Hd must be well over 6months old,Where is that?

I don't claim to know the process well but the hard part is getting the channel on the air, once they are on a satellite there is very little for Virgin to do other then agree a price. Their uplink will come from the same place as sky.
All their channels either come from a Satellite feed or DTT.

Yep that's correct , proven recently when Sky had an issue with a transponder effecting ESPN America, the channel was down also on cable.

And who puts them on VM's network? Just because a channel has been uplinked to a satellite doesn't mean it's available on cable. VM's feeds may well come from a satellite feed but VM have to receive that feed, demultiplex it and then add it to one of their own multiplexes. That's quite a lot more than just agreeing a price.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
Sky Movies Classics HD and 4 UKTV HD channels is coming to Virgin Media in October Confirmed.
Quote:
I'm pleased that you've noted the significant effort and investment we've made in HD channels recently. We are going to be launching a number of HD channels in October. This includes four channels from UKTV which we will be announcing shortly. We will also be launching Sky Movies Classic HD in October. That will mean that we will have 36 HD channels of which over 19 are included for free as part of our TV packs,
We are in discussion with the owners of the other channels you list as well as a number of additional providers so we hope to be able to bring more HD channels in the future.

I think Sky Movies Classics HD will launch on channel 441
Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD can not be far away then
