There is a 5th HD channel up for grabs but I think that’s expected around 2013
The whole thing seems to be one big merry go round - All free to air channels have to apply to Ofcom for HD channel or any extra channel and allow the others to agree or disagree - Its called fair trading.
Thats the basics and I'm sure there is more behind it but don’t want to start another debate on how rubbish Ofcom really is for us consumers
|
This is on Ofcom's website about BBC/ITV showing world cup - they have to request to show the world cup - but its also open to the rest of the free to view channels.
So even if BBC/ITV say they have it, its not yet approved.
Ofcom has received requests from ITV and the BBC for consent to broadcast live coverage of the World Cup Football Championship 2010.
This is a Group A Listed Event which means that the rights to broadcast live coverage must have been offered to both categories of broadcasters specified in the Broadcasting Act 1996: those providing services which are free to air with national or near national coverage (currently BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five) and those providing all other television services. The rules which apply are set out in the Code on Sports and Other Listed and Designated Events.
ITV and the BBC will be sharing coverage of the World Cup. All of the matches will be shown on BBC One, BBC Two or ITV1 except for eight in the earlier stages of the tournament which clash with other matches and which will therefore be shown on BBC Three, the interactive streams of BBC One, or ITV2, 3 or 4.

Us in the UK are way behind the HD curve even SKY.

Don't forget though that one of the things in favour of HD in the US is widescreen, which we already have on our SD broadcasts.

Right thread just some members trying to make the place more like the rest of the forum. Thank goodness for the members and MB who normally keep this thread a peaceful haven.

We can confirm that the channel will close on the Sky and Freesat platforms at 06.00 on 1 April.
On Virgin, the channel will close a week earlier, at 06.00 on 25 March, for operational reasons.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
i could never understand the appeal of that channel
Men and motors? I always thought women and motors went together better
At least, they did when I could get the front passenger seat flat...ohhh the memories

Hmm..that sounds scary..last thing I would want is having women practice wrestling with each other...hard enough getting them to practice with me, if they can do it with each other, what good am I?
