I think the BBC one was very accurate to the book. Unfortunately, this means the plot was a little slow, and not a lot happened. I have to admit, I last read the book about 30 years ago, so could have forgotten bit. Don't get me wrong, I remember enjoying the book, and love the various versions of the story I've seen over the years.
The downside is a story that reads well in a book may not translate well to the screen. Slower plots can work well in a book, but will be boring on screen.
I preferred the HBO version. It was essentially an aliens invade the earth story with the War of the Worlds name than a retelling of the story from the book, but it was well written, well acted and exciting.
yup, I am hoping that conversations have been had behind the scenes to plan for a 5 or 6 season story arc so something meaningful happens each season and the story progresses. The last thing you want with a series like this is for them to finish the story and get to where they want to at the end of season 4 and then be told the series is renewed for a 5th season and have to come up with something ad hoc.
According to Joe Mallozzi that's pretty much covered when the show is first pitched.

And it was really getting going when they cancelled it. I know it would be hard to get going again as they would be starting from scratch but if I won £100m+ on the euro millions I would love to give him the money to finish it off.
me neither, I know a couple of forum peeps loved it though including Hugh I think.
No, never seen it - I liked ‘Extras’, but not seen anything of his since.
