Re: ntl & Telewest Merger Announcement
Nothing regarding products and pricing is going to change for the best part of a year. It's going to take that long to legally get the companies as one, let alone start offering the same services.

Re: ntl & Telewest Merger Announcement
Also here:
http://ntltelewest.mergerannouncement.com/
Interesting points from:
http://ntltelewest.mergerannouncemen...faq/index.html
So is Telewest now part of ntl?
No. Telewest will not be part of ntl until the transaction closes.
When is the transaction expected to close?
It is expected to close in the first quarter of 2006.
Are there opportunities to grow the companyââ‚à ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s business?
Yes. The combination of the two companiesââ‚ ¬â„¢ local access networks, which do not overlap, will provide a strong platform allowing for product differentiation and innovation and the delivery of unique packages of service offerings. The combined company will have the benefit of a much larger cable network and, together with Telewestââ‚à ƒ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s content division, will strengthen cableââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s position in the multi-channel TV marketplace.
Will customers benefit?
Consumers will benefit from greater choice, accelerated delivery of a broader range of personalised communications and entertainment services and even better value. T he company will have additional resources to roll out new product offerings †“ such as HDTV, VoD and VoIP †“ across its footprint.
Will there be headcount reductions?
Yes.
How many?
We will not be providing a specific estimate at this time, but as with any acquisition, we do expect headcount reductions where there are overlapping functions and opportunities to streamline the organization.

Re: ntl & Telewest Merger Announcement
I guess this is probably really bad news for NTL and Telewest employees, one because it will mean job losses and two because they'll have yet another ex- system to further complicate support once the two companies are one.
Good luck to all the NTL people on here with their future employment.

More importantly, what billing system will they use (having moved from NTL to Telewest and having had a nightmare cancellation where they kept billing me for 10 months after the cancellation, I am not keen on being moved to NTL's billing system...)

Please, please, please, please don't let it be SABS. I still have nightmares about that system and its general level of uslessness.

Re: ntl & Telewest Merger Announcement
The merger will inevitably lead to a managerial shake-up at the new company, with Telewest acting chief executive Barry Elson stepping down and NTL boss Simon Duffy taking over.
The board of the company will include all current directors from NTL and two from Telewest.
Well thats us fooked then!!!
I feel sorry for the Telewest boys and gals, they are about to be screwed just like Cable and Wireless Comms were

Maybe you can't read then? Look at the quarterly figures. ntl make an operating profit. They never did for years. What's your issue? I'm in Hook, but I've also worked in CC, Winnersh, Andover and Manchester. What's my location got to do with anything?

But that's illegal, and ntl have to prove and back up the figures they published as they are now governed by the SOX Act. We are audited regularly.

So no mention of improved customer service then (more important than any of the above)...

Re: ntl & Telewest Merger Announcement
I'd imagine they would use SABS, I'd be very surprised if NTL just ditched if after all the work and money they have put into it over the past 3 years, plus, what sense would it make exporting 3.3m customers to another system, when they could just import 1.8m from Telewests.
I don't think this could really have come at a worse time for NTL, they were just starting to get onto their feet too, surely they did not need to do this right now, it's going to put them straight onto the back foot.
Expect things to not be right for a few years now.
