Anyway I agree Brown has lost this debate. He just doesn't get involved.

How big will the armed forces be though on this higher pay? It's like saying "We're going to increase nurses' pay, but we're also going to get rid of 1/3 of them"

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 2
Well after round one Clegg was the winner but i am still going to vote Conservative because i just cannot put the libs in charge of our defence. Cleggs indication that he would get rid of Trident ensured that..

Early poll from UKGOV says Glegg won. Sky Poll says Cameron won by clear margin.

As I asked before, which "tree hugger" policies are they then?
[And going back to an earlier question, "What obvious sucking up to Labour"?]

Clegg will get rid of them and possibly leave us open to attack from those that are striving to own these weapons. The problem with the Libs is that they would role over rather than defend and removing our Nuclear deterrent shows there true colours

Given the state of the economy, & given the kind of cuts needed, is it *really* worth spending that much money on a full like-for-like replacement of Trident? [Note that they haven't said "We will completely & utterly scrap the UK's nuclear deterrent".]
And besides... Who would nuke us? Seriously? Surely the biggest nuclear threat against us at the moment is the threat of a terrorist nuclear attack, rather than an attack by a nation? You can't nuke terrorists in retaliation...
But if we were nuked, and we did not have our own nuclear deterrent anymore whatsoever (which isn't what is actually being proposed), then as we are a member of NATO & an ally of the US, the US would retaliate for us, as an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all.

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 2
For me, it's their views on Europe that make the Lib Dems unelectable. I really don't want to be on the receiving end of a massive PR campaign, sponsored by a Lib Dem Government, aimed at persuading the UK to vote for the Euro in a referendum.

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 2
Well, I think that Clegg came across best of the three, Cameron second and Brown a sore last.
Whilst i do not agree with some of Cleggs policies he did have some good ones on immigration - based upon those of Canada / Austrailia etc.
Cameron was full of good sound bytes but still came across well.
Brown was just on the back foot in my opinion.
But then again, they are all salesmen, make of that what you will, who will I vote for? Still undecided is my answer.

Re: The 2010 General Election Thread: Week 2
Sky poll reckons Brown did, though it doesn't make a huge amount of sense. Brown 35%, Clegg 33%, Cameron 32%. Loads of contradicting data elsewhere in the polls so I would hazard a guess it's due to lack of weighting on the poll.

I just took the voting survey and I got a 4 way split of parties that I will not vote for in this election.
