yup, and it is nearly over already You can definitely tell the difference. They have gone back to the tone and feel of season 1 and 2 and it has the added benefit of the increased production budget from Amazon. It is those lovely little touches like them drinking the bubbles of floating water that do it for my realism factor. It is supposed to be an inconsequential moment that doesn't affect the story but it serves to reinforce the underlying foundation of the universe.
I am just wondering how far along the filming process the decision was made and how last minute it was. It might have been the only option they had left.
I wish there were more eps, this season was fantastic and like GoT you feel like you are just getting into it and it is over. I wish it could be renewed for 9 seasons or wherever they are up to in the books. I would happily give up all the other tv series I watch if it meant The Expanse could keep going.

Re: The Expanse
It seems the change had to be made after main filming had been completed, so I guess they must have filmed a few extra little bits to squeeze in.
Season 6 will consist of 10 episodes (again) and it is currently filming.
One of the possible reasons noted for ending after season 6 is a time jump in the books they are based off.
Apparently there is a 28 year jump from book 6 to book 7 (each season has loosly been based on the corresponding book) meaning they would have to age everyone almost 30 years, recast it completely, or totally deviate from the books. I guess Amazon didnt fancy any of those choices.
6 episodes is too little for this type of show. I know a lot of shows do it but this will end up cutting so much. It feels like Amazon felt forced to renew it for a final season and didn't wanna piss anyone off.
It should be 10 episodes minimum. There is so much more story to tell, especially about Mars. I would love a 2 or 3 parter flashback episode showing you how things used to be in the system and on Mars and the events that lead up to them breaking away.
That said, it doesn’t sound like Corey would be very interested in a prequel show or movie of any kind. “Everything in that gap is boring and the ending is rote because you know everyone has to be alive and in basically the same spot for the next books to happen,” he wrote. “It means everything requires a big reset at the end. It’s why I hate prequels.”
