some names being put about by Gooners...

CB: Ashley Williams, Ginter, Sakho, Papadopoulos,
DM: Lars Bender, Sven Bender, Fellaini, Fernando, Khedira
AM: Eriksen, Arda Turan, Erik Lamela, Pjanic, Bruma, Ander Herrera, Ivan Rakitic, Thauvin
CF: Rooney, Doumbia, Luis Muriel, Jackson Martínez, Benteke,

I think they could sell. I don't see us getting Rooney and am unfamilar with some of those players. I would rather get established PL players at this stage. Begovic, Williams, one of the Bender brothers and Michu would be awesome.

It won't because regardless of how good he is now or more likely will become he's not what's needed right now, talk of Suarez and Rooney leads to the inevitable seventeen year old wonder kid who will be great in three years time signing, the fans are.crying out for a marquee signing, proven prem quality.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Arsenal's Lady Bracewell-Smith regrets her sell-out to Stan Kroenke.
http://www.theguardian.com/football/...premier-league
Quote:
If Arsène Wenger, Ivan Gazidis and Arsenal's other powerbrokers thought angry reactions to this defeat were restricted to the club's supporters, and particularly those who chanted "spend some money" after Aston Villa had scored their third goal here, they would be wrong. For dissent is also coming from above, with the club's honorary vice-director, Lady Bracewell-Smith, also demanding change at the Emirates
|
Quote:
The club have had three months to add to their squad and appeared set to do so when Gazidis, the chief-executive, boasted in early June about an "escalation in our financial firepower". Yet the key targets Gonzalo Higuaín and Luiz Gustavo have moved elsewhere while links to Wayne Rooney and Luis Suárez are burning away. There has been a quality shortage for some time and now there is a quantity shortage to deal with days before a tie which threatens Arsenal's participation in the Champions League for a 16th straight season

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Realistically, should Fenerbahce beat Arsenal and qualify to the Champions League, and they win their case about being expelled from the tournament, will that increase pressure on Wenger? As in, will that move his job status from secure to very insecure? Would Arsenal's finances be stretched if they lose money from the Champions League?
At least (or I hope not) Arsenal haven't made the same mistake that Leeds made all those years ago, when they borrowed heavily against the promise of European football for at least the next 16 years.

If there is one thing we don't need to worry about it's doing a Leeds. Arsenal could afford to be without Champions League football and they've hardly spent a thing!

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Well Mr Hansen and Mr Wright thinks differently it seems.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23753304

Arsenal cannot afford to be knocked out of the Champions League, according to BBC Sport pundit Alan Hansen.
The Gunners have failed to strengthen their squad in the summer and have been heavily criticised after a 3-1 Premier League defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.
They face Fenerbahce in Turkey on Wednesday in the first leg of a Champions League group stage qualifier.
"It's unthinkable for Arsenal to go out of the Champions League," said Hansen.
"They will be left with the League Cup and FA Cup as they aren't going to win the title.
|
Quote:
"Arsenal have had frailties for the last three or four years in certain positions," said Hansen. "They have the money to fill those positions and Wenger hasn't done so.
"The goalkeeper, back four and certainly a holding player that is destructive are much-needed.
"They have got multi-talented midfield players and the massive pace of Theo Walcott. OK, they haven't got a potent goalscorer - but it's when they haven't got the ball that the problems are there as we saw against Aston Villa."
Hansen added: "I've mentioned four or five positions he needs to fill but he also needs a leader on the pitch.
|
Quote:
I do believe that getting into the Champions League as many times as Arsenal have does paper over some cracks. Now, we are at a place where we are looking down the end of a tunnel and you can't see any light right now. It looks very bleak at the minute

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
No they don't disagree with me. I am talking from a money point of view as was the post I was replying too.
Footballing wise getting knocked out of the Champions League would be very bad. Although Arsenal would still be in the Europa League so it wouldn't just leave them with only the FA and League cups but then Liverpool have been out of the Champions League places for so long I think we can forgive Hansen's ignorance on that part.
However Arsenal can clearly afford not to be in the Champions League and they won't do a Leeds. Arsenal are completely at the other end of the scale from Leeds, they don't spend enough rather than too much.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Mind you, I seem to remember United losing to Villa 3-1 on the opening day with a youth heavy squad and they went on to win the League that season. So there might be an omen in Saturday.
Watch, it will all go to cock now and Arsenal will struggle to make 4th.

Keep a close eye on Adem Ljajic this season. I believe you were looking at him last window.

Not bad, not thrilling either. Still proven talent who won't need to adapt and less risky.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Meh Arsenal can come back or they'll be someone else. £12 million isn't that far from his worth IMO.
