Hear hear
I get fed up that a lot of us who just have a normal amount of usage, or even some gaming included have to put up with people whinging, going on and on about wanting an uncapped service. Greedy greedy greedy

id agree with you that caps are servign a purpose and are gonan be needed on the new ntl service but i think that i myself whould qualify as a resonble users hittign on average 10 gig a month but by bottom teir this makes me an abusive heavy user. yes i know i should coff up and stop wining but i dont pay for the conenction and that isent an option

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
I don't see why you shouldn't pay more for the more you download. You don't have a phone and not get billed for what you have used (or you do if you pay a premium for an unlimite package)
You dont expect to use petrol in your car and drive hundreds of miles and expect a one off payment for unlimited fuel.
Why should it be different for the internet?
These people who are saying they expect to be reimbursed for their 3 Mb connection if they don't get upgraded by 31st December as well....
Why should you get a refund? You have used the 3Mb connection have you not? Hello - you dont' get refunds for things you have used if there is nothing wrong with them!!!

I was one of the people who upgraded to 3mb in anticipation of the 10mb. I don't have the relevant release to hand but i am pretty sure they said it would be before the end of the year although not giving an exact date.
I am perfectly happy to wait till December 31st, but i would be pretty miffed if it wasn't there on that date. I never complain to NTL and probably haven't had to because i have had a first class service from them. But i would have wasted just £1 short of £40 on upgrading for no reason which i would look to be reimbursed for (assuming the NTL Release actually said before the end of 2005 and it wasn't my misreading). Please correct me if the wording didn't actually say before the end of 05.
Still i am 99% sure it will be in November/December so it's a fait mute point.

Actually the higher the upload the better the ping .
At the moment I am on bulldog 8 meg down, 579 up, and when I play on most uk servers I have a ping between 15-20.
However when I was on nildram 2mb down, 256 up I had a ping around 30/40.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Nildram was the "gamers choice" as it had less hops to Jolt, bulldog has a few more, but still I had a hell of a drop in ping with the higher upload.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
My mate was on 150k when i was on 1mb (back in the day) and we used to have the same ping on the server, even thought we had different upload speed (1mb was 256k i think). we lived in same area

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
I've always thought of bandwidth and ping like a motorway, you can have 3, 4 or 5 lane motorways, the 5 lane carrying lots more traffic, but the traffic still moves at 70 (well it should be anyway ). So the only way to really improve your ping is change providers to someone who has less hops, or better facilities for pingage.

Wrong.
Please don't mis-quote me either, i'm not expecting to be reimbursed for my 3meg connection, just the difference between 2 and 3meg.
You can't tell people you will be making a 10meg service for those people who are on 3 meg and then not deliver. That actively encourages people to upgrade from a package below in the hope they get this 10meg. Please don't tell me there arn't many people who have done the same as me. It's mis-selling a product.
I am 99% sure they will too, as whenever i have reasoned with them in the past regards what is proper i have always got what i deserved.
Like i say, NTL won't want people asking for a refund on the difference anwyay, it will be out before Dec 31st guaranteed.

Lol I remember Picking downloads on napster and looking at the pings 500-1000.
Mind you that was dial-up with £30-40 call charges

A higher upload speed will help with your gaming... especially if you want to create your own server for your mates or whoever to join you, but it wont lower your ping any... I have been on the 1mb down 100k up, 2mb down 200k up and am now on the 3mb with 300k up and i've seen no change what-so-ever in my ping, still between 20 - 30 on the UK servers.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Ping is affected only by distance (hops), and traffic.
Bandwidth only helps if there is local traffic like a p2p application running. It cannot however, reduce ping when compared to the same connection under low contention/usage.

i'm also connected through ntl, and as far as I know, they only do 1mb 2mb and 3mb with 100k, 200k and 300k up. I'm a quake 2 freak and the ping does depend on what server your playing on I now have quake 4 installed and have even lower pings on some q4 uk servers 15 being my lowest.
