Rooney is showing worrying signs of Gascoigne syndrome, unfortunately. We always seem to eat our young in the UK. Not sure either Man U or Newcastle would be great for him - Roy Keane or Lee Bowyer as your role model?

Sir Alex would be a fool to play rooney ahead of smith in the first team.

Anyway United only put a bid in for rooney after newcastle did, before 'the money wasnt there' it seem united where willing to play the waiting game for rooney but have had their hand forced by the magpies

You probably wouldn't remember this but when Ryan Giggs was up-and-coming, SAF fiercely protected him from the media, he'll do the same when...erm, I meant if () Rooney signs for Utd.

I'm not that young. I remember hearing (when I lived in the NW) of AF storming up to Blackpool one night and physically removing a young Giggs from a party.

I'm not saying I think you're young, it's just you don't really strike me as someone who pays much attention to other teams
