Re: [Merged] - Football talk
lol typical ARSE/Man YOO reactions to Liverpool not getting out of the group stages. I think we will, just need to win all games at home and do well away.

Spurs have also won three European trophies, incidentally.
Anyone care to list all the British clubs that have made it to European finals? I'll start you off with:
Arsenal
Manchester United
Liverpool
Spurs
There are *lots* more, some very surprising.

Villa did it in 81 (I think - definitely early 80s), and Forest in the late 70s.

And reports on Merseyside are suggesting Rooney now favours Newcastle ahead of an Old Trafford switch.

But nor are Forest, Ipswich or (arguably) Newcastle. At that point, Villa were one of the best teams in Europe, let alone England.
Don't forget, in either the first or second season of The Premiership (can't remember which one), Villa were runners up in the league, and it took Man U 25 years to win the league (for that matter, Arsenal haven't managed back-to-back Championships for about 30 years).

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Rooney will get first team football at newcastle, he will not at united because they have enough good strikers.

We'll let you off
Seems Rooney has said that he wants to join a club that is consistently in Europe so any number of clubs could be suitable, biased here though so hope he's coming over to OT

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Other than the kudos that they'd get for signing him, I don't know why Newcastle are trying to get Rooney - the strikers they already have are good enough (it'sd always been the defence that's caused them problems), but you'd think that they would replace Woodgate first.
