Depend on browser but firefox can sometime anticipate download and start it in background so when you click go (or pages does it for you) the first stage can come flying down.
I've downloaded Oracle software and patches (hundreds of meg) and it starts at over 1000kB/s but drops usually below the expected 360. (I'm on 3Mb).

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Just a question to those that are thinking of upgrading to 3 meg so that they can get the 10 meg upgrade when it arrives. What if and i mean this as a WHAT IF not a THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. What if NTL dont upgrade anyone on 3 meg till the 30th of December are you all going to get on to customer service or post on here and complain bitterly how you were ripped off ?.
Just a question.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Bill I think that you make a very fair point here mate, why does every1 have to have the fastest instantly if you want a fast broadband connection why your still living in the UK....Sweden on average has 10mb connections all over the place, so do Finland, Norway and Holland (if you pay a bit more you can get even higher then 10 or 20mb)
so stop complaining and moaning that its not here yet and just be bloody patient the upgrade will come just wait and see!!!!!

Swedish people are getting free upgrades from 10/10 up and down to 100 meg down and 10 meg up. Some other country will always have faster internet just the way the world works.
Bill im on 3 meg so what i asked will not effect me, you do not need to go out of your way to find out the information.

Now Bill i normally agree with you on virtually everything but...... i think people would have a fairly valid complaint if the upgrade didn't happen for 3mb before the year was out. I was one of the people who upgraded to 3mb in anticipation of the 10mb. I don't have the relevant release to hand but i am pretty sure they said it would be before the end of the year although not giving an exact date.
I am perfectly happy to wait till December 31st, but i would be pretty miffed if it wasn't there on that date. I never complain to NTL and probably haven't had to because i have had a first class service from them. But i would have wasted just £1 short of £40 on upgrading for no reason which i would look to be reimbursed for (assuming the NTL Release actually said before the end of 2005 and it wasn't my misreading). Please correct me if the wording didn't actually say before the end of 05.
Still i am 99% sure it will be in November/December so it's a fait mute point.

Please read my post again i said if they don't upgrade till 30 of December. After that then yes fair game. But lets say its 1st of December they do it and someone upgraded 1st of November then i don't think anyone should start complaining if they are on 3 meg for a month. See where i am coming from here.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Why are you all whinging about not being upgraded first if you are on 2 or 1meg? and why should you get a discount, I don't have VOD in my area yet so should I be asking for a discount then?
Stop moaning and deal with it!
