10.1 million homes may disagree , so its only a problem when Sky buy into a popular show a few seasons in , weres the harm in trying to strengthen there flagship channels , anybody would think they'd locked it away on Sky Atlantic.

This is the only thing that grates me about your statement, As the channels that have had them before had the initial outlay and took a risk as the programme could have been a flop. Since it seems that Sky are waiting for the other channel providers to do all the hard work and then Sky come in and pay over the odds for the programmes.
In regards to Glee Channel 4 walked away and and it is not full sure who will get the rights, But it seems like Sky will again

I can see your point , however this will always happen , don't forget Sky takes risks with shows as well.

Why is this a problem? We all get Sky1, don't we? Now, if it was going to Sky Atlantic it would be different.

Exactly Sky one is available on M+ packs and above isn't it , the only people this affects are freeview and freesat customers plus VM M customers.

No. Wrong. More people can watch E4 than can watch Sky1.

Nicking is a bit harsh of a word , don't forget they've paid big money , Channel 4 had the chance to up their offer.

What I don't understand is why Channel 4 and the BBC are caught out time and time again with this type of thing. When negotiating the initial deal they only seem to agree the first couple of seasons. Channel 4 had Lost for 2 seasons, then it went to SKY. BBC had 24 for 2 seasons, then it went to SKY. E4 had Glee for 2 seasons, now it looks like it's going to SKY. I think Channel 4 and the BBC need to be more aggressive and forward thinking whenever they snap up future TV rights from the States, just in case the programme becomes incredibly popular and runs for more than 2 seasons!
On a similar note HBO are working on the 3rd series of The Ricky Gervais Show using the best bits of the old podcasts and XFM shows. The 3rd series will be on both HBO in America and Channel 4 here in the UK. Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant and Karl Pilkington will be recording brand new content later in the year for the planned 4th series of the show which is rumoured to on HBO and SKY One!

C4 may have "had the chance to up their offer" but it was probably too much for them to justify spending on just the one show.
The point is that Sky have the money to be able to outbid any other channel if they want to. However, as has already been said, their strategy seems to be that they see how shows perform on other channels then, if they're a big hit, they'll swoop in with a bigger wad of cash and, essentially, nick the show.
