Re: Blatter presides over new FIFA crisis
This isn't new, who didn't know Russia bought the World cup along with Qatar? Isn't this the point of the corruption scandal besides finding out it's been happening years... another fact people already knew.
Then they have the cheek to put forward candidates from within FIFA or UEFA yet again. No disrespect because not everyone is corrupt, but no one from either organisation should be considered for Presidency at this time.
They're going to allow the same voters that voted Blatter in have another round of votes? The same voters that clearly pocketed money for votes, the logic in this is typical of FIFA.
As for the England world cup bid, it was destroyed by our own Media before we even got a chance to offer some money for votes
When you allow horrid papers like the Daily Mail to roam free and spew constant crap then you're asking for it.

What seems to be new is Blatter admitting it.

It continues..

Two Fifa officials have been arrested in another pre-dawn raid of the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich on suspicion “of accepting bribes of millions of dollars”, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice has announced.
The luxury hotel favoured by Fifa officials was raided for the second time this year, with the New York Times reporting that the Fifa vice-presidents Alfredo Hawit of Honduras and Juan Ángel Napout of Paraguay have been detained on orders issued by the FOJ on behalf of the US Department of Justice.

Re: Blatter presides over new FIFA crisis
Given what we've all suspected for a very long time, I'd like someone to explain why it's taken soooooo long for any of this to happen. I dare say some will claim powerful corporate interests with lots of money at stake had something to do with the apparent reluctance of the authorities to act until now.

Daley Thompson has labelled the corruption scandal surrounding international athletics as the worst crisis to have ever hit the sport - and worse than that at FIFA.
French police have announced an investigation into former IAAF president Lamine Diack, who is suspected of receiving 1million euros to cover up doping offences by Russian athletes, with other IAAF officials allegedly involved.
Officers visited the headquarters of international athletics in Monaco on Tuesday and took documents, a statement from the IAAF confirmed.

Endemic I'd say.

The minute any sport turns professional and money steps through the door, corruption sidles in afterwards..

Re: Blatter presides over new FIFA crisis
In far too many cases the combination of power, money and vested interests seems to be toxic. The only thing which surprises me is how long it's taken for anyone to do anything about but I dare say that's where having powerful chums comes in...

Re: Blatter presides over new FIFA crisis
Rather like those politicians who start to believe they're almost God, people like this soon lose touch with reality and start to think of themselves as untouchable. It's a combination of supreme arrogance and complacency which leads to their downfall, some sooner than others.

A high-ranking Fifa official has been identified by the FBI as a suspect in a £6.6m bribe paid in return for votes for 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa.
A new indictment from the US Department of Justice refers to the official as 'co-conspirator 17'. He is not named.
It states he made three payments to the now-disgraced former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner.

Millions of Swiss francs in bank accounts belonging to world soccer's governing body Fifa have been frozen, the Swiss justice ministry has said.
US officials believe "corruption money" may have been transited through the frozen accounts, the ministry said.
Between 50m and 100m Swiss francs ($50.1m-100.2m; £34m-£67m) has been frozen, media reports say.
Meanwhile, suspended Fifa President Sepp Blatter is appearing before the organisation's ethics committee.
