If it's as good as Boris's excellent Cycle Superhighways in London, that's an absolute bargain. They were about three times that.

Conservative Cross Border Checks: "Hold my beer!"
Quote:
The cost of implementing post-Brexit border arrangements will cost at least £4.7bn after repeated delays in implementing new controls, according to a report by Parliament’s spending watchdog.
The UK has said it hopes to have the “world’s most effective border” by 2025, but the National Audit Office (NAO) said the strategy “lacks a clear timetable and an integrated cross-government delivery plan”, with individual departments responsible for implementing different aspects.
It also said that repeated changes to and deferrals of the plan to introduce full import controls have led to uncertainty for businesses and extra costs for government and ports.
The government delayed the implementation of full controls five times since the end of the EU exit transition period on 31 December 2020.
The report said: “The repeated delays in introducing import controls, and difficulties forecasting requirements, have resulted in government expenditure on infrastructure and staff that were ultimately not needed.”
“Late announcements about policy and uncertainty about the implementation of controls have also reduced the ability of businesses and ports to prepare for changes.”
The Government estimates the overall cost of implementing new arrangements and improving the management of the border to be £4.7bn, according to the NAO.

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi
Very loud rumours of an election date to be announced today. No 10 has not denied the rumours to journalists and many of those journalists have also said their normal sources are not responding: https://x.com/ShippersUnbound/status...15724011327507

Once again there are snap election rumours. I have been a sceptic every time so far. More importantly, people I trust who are in the loop have told me it's nonsense. This time, those people are silent

Cabinet ministers have been told to attend a meeting at 4pm with no indication what it's about : https://x.com/JasonGroves1/status/17...2VW5f7QElXtO9Q

Sunak has not denied it just now by instead saying there will be an election in the 2nd half of this year.
The 2nd half of this year of course starts in just over six weeks, any snap election would be in that period.

For what it is worth, I think an earlier election is on. I can’t tell you why I now think that. This is not 100% certain but close enough for me to mention to you

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi
The noise is fever pitch now. Journalists are saying that No 10 has gone into radio silence and no one is picking up calls.
If they're not calling it now then they will look even bigger idiots.

Well it makes sense, after all he's a very popular guy and his "plan" is working so why not (even though he reckons the country doesn't want it )

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi
It must be.
No 10 would have shut it down now or at least there would have been some leaks to the press to cool it.
