Re: New smart TV which os
I can only comment on what I’ve used - Tizen OS (as used by Samsung TVs) is great and always gets new apps quickly. Apparently Tizen is open source so you might find it on other models as well.

Re: New smart TV which os
I prefer LG panels over Samsung so would be stuck with WebOS if I was buying but would use a Firestick for apps anyway

Re: New smart TV which os
As Jaymoss says LG panels are good so we've gone with the best of both worlds with Sony OLED so we get LG panel and android OS.

Re: New smart TV which os
We don't have a smart TV, but do use the Firestick to take advantage of the apps, "Bee TV" and "Tea TV" are good for streaming. (recommended on the forum by SnoopZ). They are regularly updated.

Yes I would say a Firestick or similar beats any smart TV app, especially as you can side load the above apps.

Re: New smart TV which os
I find the OS on the LG's to be quite reliable although I agree with everything said ie the Firesticks are generally good but occasionally glitch out at startup. I've also heard the Sony oleds have the best processing althouh i've not had any visual problems with the LG other than a bit of image retention (it's a 2018 model).

Door bell is there's but given its ring or blink of the well known brands not a lot of choice any thoughts on a 42 " or so smart TV welcome

Been using Android on a Sony for a few years and it has every streaming and subscription app you'll ever need. Generally fast and stable.

Does it allow side loading of apps?

Yes - has it's own downloader too for when you have a link, separate from the app store.
