The man's motive is not yet clear but terror prosecutors are looking after the case.
Police sources quoted in local media said the man was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic).
"There are elements that point in the direction that this is a terrorist act," Eric Van Der Sypt, spokesman for the Belgian federal prosecutor's office, told the AFP news agency.

Not much doubt when they shout out "Ali's snack bar".

When I worked for TNT Airways their Aircraft HQ was in Liege and we used to stay in the HOTEL MERCURE Liège Centre.
We often walked to to the centre to eat.

Re: Liege shooting: Two police and passer-by dead in Belgium
From what I understand he was in jail for a relative petty crime and this was part of the standard procedure of letting people out for a few times ahead of a proper release.
He also seems to match the typical profile of these people: young, male, angry, loner and radicalised. The profile of a islamic terrorist seems to overlap with the profile of school shooters or right-wing terrorists.

He was being sought for shooting dead a drug dealer in Luxemburg within days of his release from prison.

What it’s true? Most of these attacks have been committed by young men who have been radicalised and seem isolated from society. Wasn’t this the same demographic as the Manchester bomber here?
Asking why they seem to be easier to radicalise and pointing out that we can see this pattern elsewhere is not a controversial or new question to ask.

You're pointing out an inconvenient truth that some will doubtless find hard to swallow.

Not quite...while lone wolf attacks have become more prevalent lately a majority of attacks by Islamic Terrorists (at least mass casualty ones) are still carried out by groups of terrorists. Like an entire cell. (Whether it be in London / Belgium / Paris / San Francisco etc).
Mass casualty firearms / homicide / non terrorist attacks by domestic (local) residents / criminals that are not hatched overseas are almost always individual and not groups of people.
Overall though, nobody should be entirely surprised that criminals and terrorists all follow at least a basic linear pattern in which they agree and do the same thing. (Breaking the law with the effect of mass casualties in one way or another).
Though do not over-generalize too much ; you have no idea whether those who are responsible for lone shootings are right wingers or not...and a lot who are espouse to Nazism - that has nothing to do with the right. They do have one thing in common - both neo nazi's and Islamic terrorists hate Jews ; right wingers defend Israel and fight Islamic terrorism.
Your analogy is not accurate at all.

I am not lumping school shooters as far-right, I am separating the two. Also I am not talking so much about the methods or motivation but rather the demographics of those involved. Obviously they are not connected in terms of their politics or religion.
What I think they have in common is that they tend to be young men who are isolated from wider society. Maybe it's a case of collation not implying causation and maybe it's just a function of the mindset that would do such a thing to be isolated. But why is it rarely women too? It's also not a new observation to say that isolation makes people more susceptible to being radicalised.
That said it might be a bit of a simplification so this isn't a argument I would argue too strongly

Re: Liege shooting: Two police and passer-by dead in Belgium
Yeah though it might be worth pondering a bit.
I can see what you mean about not looking at motives so yes that aside just looking purely at the demography gender is a slight similarity.
I don't know how notable this is but I am yet to see a single mass shooting (non Islamic Terror related) that a woman was behind. Now when it comes to terrorist attacks, women are beginning to play a larger role - especially in the west. The UK has seen many female members of families be interrogated as to their involvement (going all the way back to 2005) but also in Chechnya (hitting Russia) a lot has been made of the Black Widow / the attacks in Beslan, we saw in San Bernadino a husband and wife both go on a rampage and the wife of the Orlando Pulse attacker being charged...this seems to never be the case with the lone gunman as they rarely are married / with someone.
As much as this may be an over simplification, those who have something (or someone) more to the point, to live on for don't tech to go shoot up a place with innocent civilians as victims. (Unless they think it gets to the afterlife which is as warped as it gets).
