Muhammed Ali and a host of boxing greats were in attendance at the funeral of former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier in Philadelphia on Monday.

And in a moving tribute, Reverend Jackson made a case for the city of Philadephia to honour Frazier, comparing him to a boxing film legend, portrayed in movies by Sylvester Stallone, of whom there is a statue in the city.

Quote:
When asked by reporters how Frazier should be remembered, Jackson replied: "As a great boxing champion and a great humanitarian. A boxing champion because he won the gold medal, because he was the real world champion, because he did not inherit, he earned it."

The legend will always live on.

Re: Boxing 2011
Yes it's a shame the great man's no longer with us. Boxers/fighters of that era make today's so called stars look embarrassing especially that useless lumpa wood Fury who was fortunate enough to have the fight stopped (again) in his favour before he would've got knocked out himself IMO. And no wonder his fights are free to watch on channel 5 because I for one wouldn't pay a penny to watch him. Just one more thing what the hell was his manager on about in the post fight interview when he said the 1st three rounds were on par with the Hagler v Hearns fight back in 1985 (is he alright in the head). I suppose he can try to make his fighter sound good because deep down he's probably thinking he may not be as good as he first thought?
Cheers
Riv.

Re: Boxing 2011
Yes the great boxers of yesteryear could not just talk the talk but could also walk the walk and there ain't many of those around nowadays.

l thought this was a very interesting read in the Guardian today about Liam Walsh's story which involves drugs, gunshot wounds and training in a cellar.

I understand exactly what you're saying denphone especially about all talk and no action Haye. But I don't think Vitali Klitschko can be classed as one of the worst HWC ever. I think it's more about the opponents who's put in front of him than anything else and when he put's them away he's only doing his job whether it be exciting or not.
Now compared to the greats of yesteryear... no comparison.
Cheers.

If it happens Haye V Klitschko I wonder if sky will stick to there no PPV rule, I for one will not be paying for this after the debacle of the 1st fight.

And you can add me to that list of people not prepared to pay for any Sky PPV boxing.

It has emerged that boxing legend Muhammad Ali was taken to hospital after falling unconscious at home just days after his frail appearance at a funeral for Joe Frazier.

‘The victim started to pass out in the car and when they got him into the house he fell unconscious,’ a Paradise Valley Police spokesman said.

It has not been revealed what Ali was treated for or how long he spent at the hospital – but he has now recovered.

Thank god the great man is alright now.

England's Martin Murray drew with WBA super middleweight champion Felix Sturm as the German retained his title in Mannheim.

Murray was awarded the fight 115-113 by American judge Ted Gimza but, with Jean-Francois Toupin scoring it 116-112 for Sturm and Pasquale Procopio unable to split the pair, he was left to hope for a rematch if he is to prise the belt off the 32-year-old.

Re: Boxing 2011
Thanks for letting us know about that den...
I hope he has fully recovered and stays with us for many more years to come..
BTW - Ironically there's a documentary on tonight from 1996 called "When We Were Kings". It's about the Rumble in the Jungle epic. But it's not all about the fight itself, it includes a bit of everything. You might have seen it before but if not it's well worth a look.
