Re: Plane Spotters Corner
For those of you who really don't listen to the safety demonstration when onboard a plane, you really should.
But in case you fly with South West airlines, I'm sure this guy will get your attention:

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
If it's a stealth bomber, shouldn't it look like this. ;-)

Its unmistakable teardrop profile is shrouded in the blur of a condensation cloud as it reaches high subsonic speed.
...
The cloud effect is caused by a vapour cone also known as the "Prandtl-Glauert singularity".
It appears when there is a sudden drop in air pressure around aircraft travelling just above or below the speed of sound.
These condensation clouds, also known as "shock collars", are frequently seen during space shuttle launches but their precise nature is still under debate.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Yep, I know it can happen at subsonic especially on a humid day at Hi-G's.... More peeved off with the typical overstatement headline that most newspapers seem to use to get readers.. (but I'm sure that's a whole other thread )

Preparing for Take Off
Series charting the development of Britain's airports and how they have transformed the country, in the process creating both freedom and fear. This part takes us from the imperial glamour of Britain's first airport terminal at Croydon to the internationally-agreed hieroglyphics on today's taxiways and runways. Using archive and access to airports' hidden corners, it reveals the local rivalry, skulduggery and sheer passion for flight behind our airports. Contributors include Lord Foster.

Re: Plane Spotters Corner
Unfortunately the weather didn't play the game today. Only the RN helicopters were able to do their display before the flying was cancelled. Better luck tomorrow.
