Cable - router question
I just moved it with my fiancee, and she has time warner cable for her phone and internet service. Her modem is a Motorola SBV5220. She is renting a Netgear CG814WG wireless modem for $10 a month. I find this pretty silly.
TWC has her wired from the wall to a coaxial splitter when sends coaxial cables to the modem and directly to the modem. The modem and router have no direct connection.
I have a Belkin pre-N F5D8230-4, and have tried to replace her router by taking out the splitter so that it is coaxial from the wall to the modem then ethernet cable from the modem to my router. With this connection, the internet light on the modem refuses to turn on. I have tried multiple permutations of turning devices on and off with various wire configurations.
Does anyone know if I'm fighting a futile battle? Are we condemned to pay $10 a month for years to come?
Any advice would be appreciated.
