Outlook not starting. MSOE.DLL

Hi all

Having problems with Outlook Express. When I open it I get the following messages :

Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full (Ox800C012E,5); 2nd message: Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be intialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly.

Any ideas on how to fix this.

Many thanks

Mike

Re: Outlook not starting. MSOE.DLL

Hi all

Still been unable to fix this problem and getting the same mesage again....

My email works ok on this PC. When my wive logs on and points to the same email address and folders she gets this message

..Initial error message says 'Outlook Express could could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact MS support for further assistance. (0x8007000E, 5)'.

Clicking OK at this point produces another message - 'Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialised. Outlook Express may not be installed properly'.

Any more ideas

Thanks

Mike

Re: Outlook not starting. MSOE.DLL

What version of IE/OE are you using? Sounds like the msoe.dll file is simply missing/corrupt that should be in C:\Program Files\Outlook Express. Once you let me know *exactly* what version you are using (i.e. if IE6 whether you are using initial release, SP1 or SP2) and I'll be able to post the required file for you.

Personally speaking though, can't see why you are using Outlook Express, isn't the most secure mail client in the world - have you ever thought about trying an alternative, such as Thunderbird for example?

Re: Outlook not starting. MSOE.DLL

Not got OE installed on my computer as have a custom built version thanks to nLite (can cut out all the crap I don't use). Managed to extract said file however from my original XP Pro SP2a CD, is the version you require.

As I said, save this file, then copy it to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express - if the file already exists, rename it to something else first, as at least you can backtrack to the original file if you need to.

Re: Outlook not starting. MSOE.DLL

Try this one..

also, have you recently restored you message files from a backup? You can get this sort of fault if the dbx files are read-only.

Are your dbx files anywhere near the 2Gb max size?

If all else fails you'll have to reinstall OE.
