woes

I have a belkin wired router and am connected to the internet via cable modem. When browsing websites and such usually we get ok performance, but when playing games after a certain amount of minute ( 5-20 ) the internet connection seems to 'die' for 10-60 seconds then come back. The network still runs fine in this time period. Could this be a network/router problem or something to do with the cable modem? (Same problem on all our pc's)

Re: woes

Have you tried this with one pc connected directly to the cable modem? And does it still happen when there's only that pc connected?

I've heard of this problem with a few batches of Belkin routers mind, so, i'm taking bets on it bieng that. Try what i said above and post the results.

Also, what model of cable modem is it?

Re: woes

could the router be getting hot? perhaps try ics to cut the router out see if your online gaming improves (of course this involves buying a x over cable and may not be practical

Re: woes

Just a quick note on this one guys - be aware that overheating may be an issue but if this is not the case its more likely that the amount of PPP connections/timeout values may need to be tweaked by telneting into the box. That is if you can find the documentation on the CLI commands to use.
