"Updating Media Library" message

When I play items that I have copied from my CDs to Windows Media Player (Ver 8), I often get a message that reads:

Updating Media Library
Updating track information in Media Library and My Music. This may take several minutes

I believe that it then tries to access windowsmedia.com (207.46.xxx.xxx), but as I have this blocked in my firewall, it never gets there; anyway, I prefer to tell MS what to do, not do what it feels like doing.

Is there any way of disabling this annoying message? Looking under Tools/Options there seems no way of disabling "Check fo udates", assuming that this is the problem, anyway I've got it set to only once a month.

In WMP 8 when you look in tools, options, is there a tab marked Media library? If so have you got it set to update the music files by retrieving missing information from the internet? Will do a screeny to show you the tab in a minute.

Hmm. Mine seems quite different from yours.

Re: "Updating Media Library" message

Maybe its because he has WMP 8 and you have WMP9

I have WMP9 and a completely different options screen alltogether, but that probably has to do with the fact that I am using Windows 2000 rather than Windows XP.

Re: "Updating Media Library" message

Thats because I'm on WMP9 Which is why I asked if you had the same tabs as me LOL. I don't think its the autoupdate feature you need to disable its the filename/ track listing information that is being updated.
