Mac Airport and ntl 200 modem
Do other Mac users find Airport OK with the above modem, with two teenagers in the house, getting online can be a bit of a problem at times, got myself a secondhand Powerbook G4 (667) with an airport card already in it, so is Airport the best way forward?.
I do realise that I need to put an airport card in the G5 (and G3) Imacs, and buy the base station.
Would it be too much to ask if any one could sell me the hardware in working order?
Thanks for reading this far..........
AND, any ideas when NTL wil be boosting speeds in Norwich (for free?) - currently running the 1Mb service - if I go wireless, at peak times, 1Mb may not be enuff.

 to the forum.
Yes, you are right, you do need airport cards for the macs. However, you do NOT necessarily need an Airport base station. Any wireless router will do. I personally have PCs and a Mac, and use a Linksys WRT54G, and this is quite reliable.

Re: Mac Airport and ntl 200 modem
I use an Airport Extreme with an ntl 250... no problems at all
Airport is an option, however any cheap wireless router will do- imo unless you want to go for the airport extreme and use the itunes streaming, then i think you would be much beater going for a "normal" wireless router- airports are a little overpriced for what they are.

The WRT54G is cheaper than an Airport too; http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...592198-9351853
Admittedly, it's not as nice looking, but if you sort out the cabling correctly, you can hide it in a cupboard or something.

Re: Mac Airport and ntl 200 modem
All, bit the bullet, Airport Extreme base station from John Lewis, Airport card for the g5iMac from Applestore, 5 mins to install card, 5 mins to open/set-up base staion, 2 mins to set up wireess printing and hey - presto wireless internet.
Thanks anyway.
