Early rumours is Made TV is set to 100% take over - they own part of Bay TV Liverpool right now - and rebrand as "Made in Liverpool"

Re: Bay TV

Nobody in this country seems to know how to make local TV pay. Even London Live, which stood the best chance of being profitable, is struggling.

This should come as no surprise, given that practically all the programming is boring. The first rule of television is that you need content that will attract a decent sized audience.

To my mind, the BBC, with its public broadcasting remit, should make its local material available for the commercial TV stations to use. The commercial broadcasters should supplement the local programming with a variety of other programmes that could be acquired by a body that is set up to provide content nationally to all local broadcasters. Added to which, local channels could put on programmes about buying houses, sponsored by local estate agents, provide music video programmes sponsored by local music retailers and so forth. Local presenters could link the programmes with some interesting local chat and news developments - it could actually work quite well. It would be a great platform for local politicians and for local authorities to publicise new schemes, services and so forth.

If that doesn't work, maybe the government should just give the whole thing to the BBC with a cash injection for their additional expenditure.

STV are making Local TV work.

But they has to ask OFCOM to make the two channels the same lineup - bar the local news.

STV did start to make money from STV Glasgow in the past year.

Re: Bay TV

They'd have been better off simply advertising a temporary* semi national service to any interested channel operators.

I suspect that most people would prefer eg one of the FTA film channels on Freeview instead of the dross that forms local TV output.

* Apparently, they are all set to lose their licences after DSO2 anyway!

If that ends up anything like "made in T&W" then the licences should be removed forthwith and the people responsible never ever allowed anywhere near a telebox again

Unfortunately, it's not just your local station that is dross.

Most (all?) of the others are too.

The BBC should be be concentrating on getting BBC Three back on the air after the failure of moving to streaming rather than throw good money to stations that were never going to be anything except a failure

I think either the BBC or ITV should take responsibility. Clearly, no-one else has a clue!!
