Virgin Media cable network doesn't go to my side of the street

Hi, we have a virgin media cabinet on our street (50M away) however we can't receive virgin media's service as there is no cable laid to about four houses (including mine) on our side of the street, the house across from me can. The virgin media home page does indicate however you can order, I have tried to order and the engineer said that there is no connection point to our property and apparently our road is too old to dig? I tried to contact the guys at cablemystreet but they said it would be un-economical as their budget is apparently £1000 per house and according to their survey it would cost around £1800 to connect each house. They said each property would need to pay the difference (£800), I would be tempted to but I doubt the other three would, despite them being interested in their services. The only complication i could see is that there is a stream between us and the other side of the road, it is like this on another street in our village though and both sides can get the services. With the new announcement of project lightning form virgin, i received an email from cablemystreet encourigng me to register intrest on their new page. I cant do this however because when i put my postcode in it just says i can already receive their services which is incorrect. Has anybody else managed to persuade virgin to lay new cable to their house? So is their any hope or should i just give in?

Probably just give in. Virgin wont install a property unless they can make money back in the long term

Plenty of places like that around... however i have seen it (mainly on a single lane street) where they just dig across the road, only involes shutting the road for a couple of hours
