Creating reinstall discs
I have a Sony Vaio laptop that had Windows 8 pre-installed (Win 8.1 was release a week later).
Today I was talking to my IT guy and he a company laptop where the HDD had died and a new one was installed, and he struggled to get HP to send him Windows 8 installation discs, and as the Key ID is hidden without it you would need to buy Windows 8 DVD.
Now how do I create DVD/CDs so that if I have a similar problem I can reinstall Windows?
The laptop does have the assist button (I've never pressed it.)

Re: Creating reinstall discs
Were you given an option to backup to disk when it was a new machine?
The serial key should be on the machine somewhere on a holographic sticker. COPY IT DOWN as the sticker will get worn.... I write it in indelible marker inside the battery bays of laptops.

The key is embedded in to BIOS

So that disc would then be able to create a fresh install should the HDD fail and a news drive be installed?
