Consciousness Under Anaesthesia
Quote:
Consciousness during general anaesthesia 'is rare'
The risk of waking from a general anaesthetic while under the surgeon's knife is extremely small - about one in 15,000 - research reveals.

If you were truly under, how do you know for sure every time was perfect?

Re: Consciousness Under Anaesthesia
Since my first experience, (heart surgery was kept asleep about 24hrs) I have been under a few times whilst a surgeon had carried out a procedure of putting long needles into my back.(hydrochortisone injections, not to be recommended)

Re: Consciousness Under Anaesthesia
Epidural, yes they are boring as hell.
Mine was straight up the tail bone area, brought a tear into my eyes.
(What those who have been truely under is to watch out for memory loss! That is short term memory loss)
I suffered short term memory loss due to slow change over from heart bipass to heart beating normal, thinking did I do this/Have I done that is terrible at times.

Re: Consciousness Under Anaesthesia
sadly I have very bad operation experience when 8 years old
My tonselitis went green emergency op. They struggled to knock me out but finally got me . Even today they struggle to put me to sleep. Had nose op they waited ages to knock me out was chatting away 2 patients came in was out in seconds They threatened a mallet lol
As the op was started I woke up all of sudden. I kicked out hit I think was the doc and struggled. They finally got me back to sleep finished the op. I just saw what looked like a mask going towards me. Thankfully it was not at the point doc cutting me if kicked/struggled could done damage.
Did for a time started get nightmares.

Re: Consciousness Under Anaesthesia
It's amazing how often some go to the doctors, I went recently as I'm now 38 and just fancied a check up. The doctor informed me I hadn't been to see him for 24 years. Shocking really.
By the way my blood pressure was perfect my weight is perfect, an I don't drink too much and my resting heart rate was one of the best he has ever seen.

So you know for sure absolutely nothing went wrong during the operations, and only the quick thinking of the theatre staff is why you're still "speaking the spoken word"
