1-
first you should not touch the master socket
it belongs to Bt
if find out or update later to infinity an engineer will be be sent as part of the service
if he see a mess you may get in trouble
2-
if you make mistake in the connections the speed may drop or may cost trouble to the exchange
3-
if i was you i will place the modem/router closed to the master socket and then use the cat 5 to the computer no matter how far it is ... is the most advised for best option if the computer is far from the main socket
4-
maybe the money for new sockets or cables and tools you will spent be almost the same charge for BT to come and do for you
