modem mode

hi guys
new with VM equipment (2 months customer)
today i give a go with the superhub at modem mode only, instead of using it as router as well

usally from what i read in reports SH performs better in modem mode but for me no

but here what i got in modem mode
according to pingtest.net jitter was 2-4(less in modem mode) but ping got from 25-30(more up)

with the SH as router got 11-21 ping but 9-11 jitter

speedtest.net in modem mode show me 22 ping and with router enable getting 7-10 usually

i run few speed tests in different webs and all tests in modem mode show me more ping
speeds was same in both modem and router modes

also the thinkbroadband monitor was all red during modem mode, did not show me how was going the spikes

is anything wrong or if i add my own router will be better the pings?

pc was connected direct to SH modem mode in lan 1 with SH as router and modem mode

thanks

Re: modem mode

if what you say is true you need to decide on which is the lesser of two evils. Modem mode shouldnt make your ping higher than router mode but even if it does, I would rather do that and use my own proper router than have to put up with using the shub as my router. Have you got a proper router you can try it with?

Re: modem mode

attaching a proper router to a normal modem should add 1ms or less to your ping. If the shub is increeasing it then there is something wrong, probably not with that particular unit but with the model and firmware as a whole

Re: modem mode

TBB needs a router to work. It won't talk directly to the moem mode SH.

…..assuming the IP to which you configured the monitor to doesn't change as in the scenario under discussion.

As soon as the OP placed the SHub in modem/bridge mode and rebooted then the cmts essentially detected the cpe mac address had changed and dhcp'd a new ip.
He'd essentially have to configure a new TBB monitor as well as ensuring his (new) end device had it's WAN icmp echo enabled.
Alternatively he'd have to "sniff" the SH imbedded router mac and clone that into his new end device to avoid the ip changing and continue to use his existing TBB graph.

Re: modem mode

I suspect the difference in ping is down to a different IP and therefore different routing. Most accurate way to test would be to match your PC's MAC address to that of the Superhub to ensure you get the same IP in both modes.

thanks no more "games" for me.
test was with all default at pc and default VM DNS servers this time

modem mode is better
had to reset the modem 2 times to get back my previous ADTMA 3 channel that was better for me and old frequencies (seems less ping)

Yuck. The amount of jitter present on VM even off-peak makes me want to puke.
