Hybred Physx anyone tried it

Was looking around Ebay as I was replying to another thread and found some interestingly cheap graphics card for sale. Namely 8800GT and some brand new 8800GTS with only 320 meg ram but I digress

Well I got to thinking about Physx and if it would be of benefit to run run one with my 5870. Done my research and found that you need to run a hack on the Nvidia drivers as they do not support this ( would punch them for this as its hardly a fair business call) as well as the Physx drivers.

Ive got all the software and even seen a card im tempted on but wondered first if anyone here had actually tried it out and if it was worth it?

Re: Hybred Physx anyone tried it

I have not tried it as I was and am now running a Nvidia card therefore I get physx anyway, but physx isn't imho anything special apart from a few things in games moving when shot etc, which i'm pretty sure it does that on your 5870 already or I might be mistaken.

Also IIRC the lead programmer for the physx who worked for Nvidia, has now moved to ATI, so I think the ATI cards will be getting Physx soon.

I would have a look on the Nvidia forums aswell as there maybe some help on there or on the ATI forum's.

Re: Hybred Physx anyone tried it

there has been some good results and ive seen some decent benchmark improvements in the scores. Just wondered really if anyone had given it a go with the hacks as I dont want to spend money and find they are not efficient

Re: Hybred Physx anyone tried it

I have an 8800GTX as primary and an 8800GT as secondary, the perfomance gain in gaming is noticeable when you have the secondary card for Physx. When your not gaming then you can fold on the second card while not compromising any performance in other tasks. Also ideal if you want to encode 2 videos at once using something like badaboom!

Worth it, and cheap!

Re: Hybred Physx anyone tried it

I take it then it did not work as you thought it might?

To be honest give it 6 - 8 month's and they may have Physx on the ATI card's anyway, but for more info on what to expect try the ATI forum's mate they may have some answer's as to what you should get from doing this, and what to do if your not.

Re: Hybred Physx anyone tried it

ive just tried it on Batman and it has made improvements so not a total waste. Least it gives me the option to enable it in hardware when the game allows and its not been to expensive

BTW you may well see me on the BFBC2 servers as CJS keys have come good and replaced my key with a proper one
