How Cool Is This?

http://pa.speedtest.rcn.net/newtest/ [Mod edit: The linked test is for rcn network users and thus will not work on Virgin Media]

Wouldn't it be great if VM would give us some stuff like this instead of 'download 2 files from ftp.virginmedia.com and add them up...'

Click the advanced view and you can see where it would populate fields showing more information on the cable modem.

Of course for Virgin to supply this it would mean some work on customer facing tools and we know how allergic to that VM have been so far.

Doesn't seem to work for me.

I wonder how it knows your modem power settings.

Note the RCN in the domain and the page dude. Unless you're a customer of RCN in the USA I don't think they'll be able to help you much

It presumably pulls the info off the customers' modems when they go to it, it's integrated to their own tech support systems.

Why would you want VM to give its customers something that only works for RCN subscribers?

Talking Re: How Cool Is This?

Looking at the site provided by Broadbandings. I would love to see VM trying to implement this sort of test mechanism for cable and national customers as this would greatly help TSC to explain and interact with VM customers how their broadband is working ok or not.

So yes, double thumbs up for me.

Re: How Cool Is This?

I think we have some progress.

I have spoken with a VM engineer and suggested the following to assist with 'selling' this service to customers and management:

Quote:
mate a thought - you could make a flash page like that and have a link on it 'Click here to talk to Frederick in India where he will tell you that even though your levels are further into the red than the UK economy your antivirus / firewall / router / browser* is at fault' .... *delete as appropriate
