Wierd Laptop Problem!

My daughter was playing online games when she realised the audio had stopped working on her laptop. When you click on the speaker icon in the system tray and move the slider up it just goes back down again on its own. A small window opens showing a speaker icon with a descending blue bar too. Anyone able to help??

Re: Wierd Laptop Problem!

has she tried rebooting the laptop? I've not seen the speaker icon behave like that but most odd behaviour responds to a reboot (and not just computers!) however annoying it is in the middle of a game.

Re: Wierd Laptop Problem!

This can happen if there are two ways of setting the volume. Maybe another application trying to set the master volume.
Check to see if there is any other sound program open that could be controlling the volume. Eg. Soundmax or something like that.

Thanks for responding. Tried that, to no avail. I think she may have downloaded agame from somewhere that had some kind of virus/worm in it? anyway, now downloading updated driver for the sound card in anattempt to fix it.
