Urgent help re wi-fi please

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but need some urgent help.

I have a new Acer laptop with built in wi-fi reciever thing, and it connects at home to my virgin wireless internet with no problems.

I am currently in a hotel in germany, and have purchased a wi fi voucher for wireless internet for 7 days.

When in the lobby, I can see the connection I need to connect to with good strength, but it seems to keep going from good signal to no signal constantly. I can connect to the internet for about one minute, then it disconnects, then connects again, sometimes trying to connect to a different connection. My connection to the hotels internet goes on \ off \ on \ off, and is really annoying me. Everyone else around seems to be using the connection with no problems. The reception said there are no problems, and no other complaints from people having problems. I don't speak german, so am having difficulty getting help here.

I am currently using the hotels own computer to write this. Any ideas what the problem might be, and I am completely new to laptops and wireless, so please be gentle with me

Tommorrow, for one night I am in a different hotel with free wifi in all the rooms, so will be able to see if I am having the same problem there or not.

Thanks in advance for any help, John

Re: Urgent help re wi-fi please

Might be worth seeing if there are any newer drivers for your laptop's wireless card. Try also moving about a bit. It could be that there is local interference at the spot you are sitting.

Re: Urgent help re wi-fi please

Thanks, will look for newer drivers, but obviously can't do that till I get back to the uk.

I have tried a couple of different areas in the lobby, will try a few more.

Another odd thing, though the wi-fi is only in the lobby, I get an 8% signal in my room, and that also seems intermittant, but I suppose that could just be down to me being on the edge of the signal there.

Thanks again

Re: Urgent help re wi-fi please

Just an update in case it helps anyone.

Phoned Acer, 1st guy said didn't know what the problem was, and not very helpful. So phoned back and was immediately told the symptoms are familiar and I should uninstal acer e-net management, which I did and now it is fine.

Why include software on a new laptop, that is known to cause problems.

Am I gonna regret buying Acer. I love the laptop so far, and (touch wood), no other problems.

Re: Urgent help re wi-fi please

I've had the acer aspire 7520 for a year now, it's a really good laptop for the price and it does everything I want it to do.

Depending on what the spec is on yours, I recommend upgrading the memory to the limit. Just ordered 2 x 2gb corsair to take mine from 2gb to 4gb. for £36.00. £6 Cheaper on amazon, but it's not corsair.

EDIT: I'll have to install a 64bit os for 4gb to be seen.
