How do I get my laptop to standby again with XP?

Reformatted and installed XP on my girlfriend's laptop except now it doesn't have a standby option, it's just greyed out.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

sounds like a driver isn't installed for something, go into device manager and look for anything with a yellow question mark or exclamation mark and install the drivers for them. Mine did this when my display driver wasn't installed.

Often it happens if the display driver isnt installed properly. Try re-installing your graphics driver.

Also check the power options in your Bios.

You could also have a look in control panel, power options, and see if there is something in there for standby.

Re: How do I get my laptop to standby again with XP?

Thanks.

It must be the display driver. I'm using a generic VGA driver as the adapter in the laptop is broken.

It crashes when using the proper driver and that's after a DBAN and restore CD.

We'll just have to live with it.

Cheers.
