Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
I just swapped from USB to Ethernet and i cannot get it to obtain an IP address. Each time it says invalid IP and sets to an automatic private IP starting with the numbers 169, any ideas to what the problem could be?

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
You have unplugged the USB and rebooted the modem?

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
Sometimes the USB connection can override the ethernet port. Make sure that in network connections your ethernet connection is enabled. Disable the USB connection. Might be worth checking you have the latest ethernet driver, and maybe uninstalling and reinstalling.
Reboot = power off for 30 seconds, then on again.
If you have an alternative ethernet cable it would be worth trying it. The USB cable needs to have been completely unplugged from the modem.

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
I have unplugged the USB connection totally, also uninstalling the device and still nothing. I have noticed there is no default gateway address, could it be something to do with my MAC address?

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
What OS are you running - some older versions of Windows (98SE & ME) have problems forgetting about USB?
Is this a standalone modem or a set top box?

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
What leds are showing on the modem?
Can you completely remove the NTL software from your PC? With ethernet to a CM, there should be no need for the NTL software.

Re: Ethernet connection will not obtain IP address
I have noticed the ethernet socket is quite loose, it keeps losing the connection also. I'll probably contact VM for advice on it, thanks for the help.
