Subject: Screen resolutions
Hi,
Could you tell me what has been the standard screen resolution now and for the past few years.
I would like to know this as I am doing a new website and want to know what to fix the width at.
In the past I have set the width to 800x600 but I am thinking if I should go to 1024x768.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
1024 x 768 is kinda standard but as Acathla said - don't fix the width - use a percentage of the screen for borders or whatever you are doing...

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
My desktop has been 1280x1024 for years now and most normal lcd's are this resolution, however my laptop is 1440x900 and is a pain on most websites that are long but not wide. most people are moving to widescreens these days!

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
I now have a 1680:1050 widescreen lcd and a hell of a lot of systems ship with a 16:10 panel nowadays. I had a 19inch crt for a few years before this and my res on the was always higher than you gave. I though default flat panel if 17 or 19 inches was 1280:1024

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
Hi,
I never thought about setting percentage as the width but it does make sence, as it would fit all screens then.
I am setting up a border, that why I want it set as I don't want it to be full screen but around 80-90% of screen

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
My LCD is 1680x1050 too. I think you should set up the border as a percentage too.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
1440 x 900 is becoming quite common now as more people switch to wide screen. It's like the WS equivelent of 1024 x 768.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
I always build my sites for 1024x768 or with percentages. Never anything lower.

1440x900 is about 1.2MP and 1280x1024 is 1.3MP whereas 1024x768 is only 0.7MP so I would say that 1280x1024 is closer, although you lose the height, I personally prefer the extra width.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
I'd say the standard now is 1024 x 768.
Remember how long it took to get people away from 800x600. It takes a good while.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions
Yes, but I'm thinking about the full audience..... There are more people with old systems than there are with new ones.
