small wireless prob :D

Its me again, with more probs lol....

Basically. After the reformat, I got the wireless internet to work on the laptop, BUT I cannot share files between the computer and laptop. They can both PING each other, BUT I CANNOT share file

I have run the network wizard and all, so what could be wrong?

Surely if they can ping each other it cant be a firewall prob???

Re: small wireless prob :D

Try this:

assuming machine1 and machine2 are the names of laptop/pc, and both have a folder which is shared...

on machine1, click start/run and then type in \\machine2

should open up explorer with a view of all shared folders on machine2.... does it?

repeat for the other machine, does it show anything?

are machines on workgroup called the same thing?

gives you something to go on...

It says NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND

No, but I am not sure they are under the same workgroup! How do I make sure that they are?

But being able to ping both is a good thing yes

Re: small wireless prob :D

pinging is always good.

start/my computer
does any drives have the hand under the icon?, no, you didnt share the drive on the network yet.

right click the drive you want to share
shareing and security, and set it for read only or read/write, look for it in the other machines networking.

'my network places/entire network/workgroup' or what ever you called it in

control panel/system/computer name/change

Go to Control Panel, Network... Should have the workgroup in there.

It should be the same on both computers.

Also, Double click network neighbourhood, and see if you can find your other comp in there.

Re: small wireless prob :D

Problem PARTIALLY FIXED

After 2 hours of messing about, finally somewhat a result!

NOW the laptop can see the computer files, but the computer cannot see the laptop files!

Also, this worked after DISABLING WINDOWS FIREWALL. I DO NOT WANT THIS

I want windows firewall enabled, and also the files to be shared

I have shared both harddrives. Disabled firewall on both. But comp cant see laptop! To be honest that is not all that big a deal, as normally I need to stream files from the comp to the laptop! Also if required then I can just copy the required file from the laptop into the computer's folder I see. But what setting in the FIREWALL do I need to use so that the files transfer without turning OFF the firewall?? Windows Firewall that is!

Linkage says that Windows firewall needs to be off!
