Setup nightmare - Linksys WRT54GL

Hi guys,

I'm hoping you might be able to advise me as I'm having real problems getting my internet configuration to work.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL with the latest Linksys firmware installed. I've completed the setup having followed all the instructions and advice from people on this forum. I cloned my Mac address and everything seems to be talking to each other - modem to router to computer. I also reset the router and then connected everything in the order that is advised. I'm using a Mac so not using the installation CD. When I go to https://autoreg.autoregister.net, however, I just get a page cannot be displayed. I can't access any other sites either.

Earlier, I did manage to put up the above page from time to time, but now I can't connect to it at all.

I also had another problem in that I don't know the serial number to enter into the above registration page. I phoned Virgin and they said the serial no. was on the bottom of the modem but I couldn't see anything that said 'serial no.' and the only 11 digit/character no. wouldn't work. Does anyone know how I can get the correct serial number as VM aren't really helping?

Any advice much appreciated as I'm really at my wits end. Fortunately, I haven't cancelled my previous ISP and BT yet so can still access the web via that.

An update. Just after I posted this I finally managed to get it working. Not exactly sure how, as is often the case with these things!! After three calls to VM, I finally managed to get a serial number - had to get put through to broadband tech support though as the woman I spoke to originally tried to give me the modem mac address as the serial and was stuck when I told her that wasn't the number I required. Seems to always be third time lucky with my calls to Virgin. Anyway, seems to be sorted now and I've got my wireless network going and am ready to enjoy superfast broadband.

Cheers,

Mel
