Smile V+ installed no hassle but?

V+ installed at 8.00 a.m. yesterday morning as promised, engineer on time , polite and helpful, everything I'ne always had in the past from their engineers.
2nd box installed in 10 mins other side of the house, just ran a third splitter off the first cable, dead simple, 10 mins organising the signal , HD up and running,
Watch the Torchwood sequence on the BBC hd channel to get the real effect of HD.
Chelsea match today was completely different with HD, the clarity was brilliant, curiously I sat down to watch the Man Utd match yesterday which was advertised as HD it wasnt showing on the HD channel.
The standard signals are upscaled as well through my HDMI cable so watching experiance is definatley enhanced. Even my wife commented on it and she can NEVER see any difference , never tunes a radio in properly ,
Not tried the VOD yet , may be Ill get the hiccups then , we wait to see.
Interestingly the engineer said that this area, Manchester, always gets a full and up and running box very quickly but he knows that some areas can take a long while.
He noticed that I already knew a bit about V+ and asked me if I needed to be run through verything, I said no, and he said that was great as by the end of the day he was always running out of time to explain things properly
He couldn't connect the 2 nd. set top at the time , my fault , and when I managed to get the tv connected I am not getting all the channels. I think I need to contact CS and get them to send a signal to start it working, correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
Worked out the copy to dvd recorder but dissapointed I cant record in HD. Hopefully this will come in the future. Connected by scart at the moment.
Would have struugled with this if it had not been for the forum ,having seen posts about getting sound only and no visual from others. Yes you only get them both when you actually start the transfer from V+ hard disc to dvd.
Overall , a happy experiance so far.

Hughes -

ISTR you are in this area too - Manchester. Could you let me know what the quality is like on SS1, Disney Channel. Nickelodeon? Mine is awful but it seems to be a regional bitrate problem and not national.

thanks

Re: V+ installed no hassle but?

sorry about that spanksmagicplan (where did you get that one from? )
nickleodeon pixellated, disney not too bad, SS1 (sky sports 1 ? ) don't have it.
Tried some of the other major channels and they all look o.k.
I wonder if Nick and Disney come via the wicked witch SKY , looks from a lot
of postings that something is wrong with the signals from them.
Dirty tricks afoot?
There must be a mole in the Virgin / Sky camps who can reveal ALL!!!!!!!!

Cheers Hughes, I feel better now it's not just my eyes playing tricks. I'll mention it to the bloke when he comes tomorrow.

Re: V+ installed no hassle but? Indian Customer Services - diabolical

Rang customer services 8.00 a.m. this morning ref no channels on 2nd set top box.
Nice indian gentleman , had to spell my name 3 times ( Hughes) , my account number repeated back wrongly 4 times , never heard my password before had to spell it out, he kept saying why was my V+ plus wrong even though I kept telling him it was my old box which had now been put in another room and that the V+ box was perfect.
Usual - turn off at the plug at re-boot - told him I had done that a dozen times at least and all I wanted was an activation signal for the XL package channels.
When the re-boot didn't work he said someone would ring me back in 48 to 72 hours. I asked him to put me through to a supervisor and he said they dont have them and put me on hold.
Hung up and rang back . got what sounded like someone from London and 30 seconds later everything was up and running.
Why oh why do they perservere with this Indian call caentre business. Everyone hates them and it upsets the customers. Branson would get a lot of brownie points with his customers if he made it english based.
