Annoying Virus

I seem to have some kind of virus. I can't seem to find out what it's called, maybe someone here has seen this before. Everyone so often my computer will play some hidden audio files. Sometimes it says "I LOVE YOU!!", sometimes its the IM Receive sound from AOL instant messenger, sometimes it sounds like a static hiss. I have something called Haali Media Splitter which runs in my system tray whenever an audio or video file is being played. Whenever these sounds play, I see the Haali media splitter icon appear for that breif period of time. The reason I mention this is because when I start up the system, I also see that icon load into the system tray for a second or two, telling me that the virus is booting up. Spybot nor AdAware have found anything. Any help would be appreciated

What virus scan are you running ??? can you trace a start point to this??? is the audio jobbie stoppable by going into msconfig and start up? Run a boot time scan of your whole system to see if it pick up owt

The splitter appears to just be a codec

Yes, it is just a codec (a very good one that I highly recommend to anyone who is a big video or audio fanatic =P ). I only mention it because it helped me realise what was going on. As far as virus scanning goes, I use Spybot, AdAware, and AVG Free. I'll post some more information soon, dinner time =X

AFAIK Adaware won't pick up virii, spybot will only report what you have for manual deletion, so that leaves you with AVG free, not knocking it but maybe you should also try another AV, ( along with AVG ) most of the big names do a free trial, the best advice I can offer, but you don't need me, you got da man on the job, as well as a few other very 'in the know' peeps.

Re: Annoying Virus

Online scan would be the path I would take - bitdefender will attempt to clean when scanning:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

You need to use IE for the scan as it needs Active X

Could give superantispyware a go too
