Can I install access 95 on xp pro

the reason is an old access database (access 95) running on win95 pc needs to be ported to a new pc running xp, the database will not work if converted to access 2003. it has to be access 95

try it and see if not try some kind of vmware and install 95 in emulation

I seriously doubt it will work though.Id try to copy the install directory and try to run the exe in compatability mode

You amy well be able to, but your user might need full admin rights to the PC. I seem to recall that office 97 and presumably earlier office stuff, doesn't handle the user rights correctly.

I don't think you have to convert the database to Access 2003, you just don't get all the functionality of the latest version?

Re: Can I install access 95 on xp pro

It should be possible to just import the database as is into Access 2003 and convert it. Access has a lot fewer compatibility problems than the rest of Office. There are instructions in Access Help on file conversion.

In what sense won't the database work if converted? It may need to be compiled in Access 95 via the Debug menu (in fact, Help recommends this to minimise errors), but the underlying principles of, e.g., table relationships are the same whatever database you're using.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Can I install access 95 on xp pro

Thanks for the input. The users have wimped out and decided to keep win95 as the os and pay for xp to be removed and win 95 installed.

Does BillSoft still support Access95?

You've informed the user that a lot of upto date software/hardware isn't compatible with Windows 95 haven't you(USB for one)

If the PC is fairly recent your gonna struggle for Win95 drivers for any of the hardware.
