RF in/out and ethernet socket on Di1010T - why?

Hi I have a black Pace Di1010T, a couple of years old. A couple of questions. What's the point of feeding the aerial signal into the box and then out again to the TV as suggested? Also can one do anything control-wise with the ethernet connection?

I am doing whole house wiring (and planning to connect the cable box to a Windows media centre setup) and am tring to figure out the IR in and out angles too!

RF in/out - I assume the point of it is so that you'd only need one lead going from the STB to the VCR/TV, carrying both the STB's signals & the analogue aerial signals. Of course, I would've thought it's less use if your TV & VCR have SCARTs, as the aerial could just go straight to the VCR/TV, while the STB would be SCARTed up to the VCR/TV.

Ethernet - nope, AFAIK it's solely for the in-built cable modem, for if you receive broadband via the STB instead of a standalone modem.

Exactly. The RF in/out works exactly like it does on your VCR. It takes the aerial signal in, adds the STB signal, and outputs the whole lot.

The ethernet socket is for STB broadband, although this is limited on Telewest.

Yes, thanks - I realise now that for me it's useful for dasiy chaining the RF signals from the DVD,VCR, and STB round the house.

Has anyone tried plugging a computer into the RJ45???? I have their cable modem and a wired network so I don't need it but it's fascinating to think the Pace has a broadband modem built in.

Lots of people in certain ntl areas use their DTV STB for broadband rather than a standalone cable modem - not sure how common it is in TW areas.
