DNS Server Refresh Rate
Hey people
I was wondering if anyone knew how often NTL refreshes its DNS servers. I run a website and we'er just transferred our domain over to a new server but the NTL DNS cache still has it pointing to our old nameservers; non-NTL customers (and NTL customers from different areas) can access the new site while people who connect through NTL in my local area are sent over to the old site. Anyone have any ideas of when they should refresh? I've waited three days now!

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
 to the site
sounds like a proxy issue to me.... try accessing the site with ?1 at the end to try to force the proxy to update, eg this site would be http://www.cableforum.co.uk?1
also try accessing the site by its new ip address and then accessing by url afterwards

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
Hey again
Hehe thanks :p. I gave the ?1 approach a go but no luck, going to http://www.sonicunion.co.uk?1 in IE, Firefox and OffByOne still returns the old server.
Problem with the IP address is that I'm on a shared server and I don't have a dedicated IP to myself, so the IP doesn't actually point to my site, it just points to the shared machine.

this is the information that i get from ntl's dns... is it looking at the correct name servers and resolving to the correct ip address?
I take it that you have tried all the simple things like clearing the local cache and ctrl +f5 to force a refresh?
you might also want to try ipconfig /flushdns if it is a windoze machine

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
NTL's DNS servers seem to be returning the correct IP address for this site. Looks more like some proxy servers not updating properly.

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
Hey again
Aye, I've tried all the simple things and this problem occurs for every user who's ISP is NTL (well, those in the same district anyway). When I do a traceroute on the domain from a foreign server, the IP returned is: 217.204.47.98 which isn't the same as that returned by that DNS request. :S
Paul M: seems to be the case. I can't connect to my pop3 server either. Basically, no matter what the subdomain of sonicunion.co.uk i try, it always attempts to connect to the old server. I've set up sonicunion.uni.cc so people can go to the site but I still have no way to send/receive emails or telnet my server.

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
i'm having a problem accessing my sites, www.saddlerydirect.com and www.mucasa.com both are hosted with web-mania.
ntl cs told me if i could access these sites using a proxy thats what i should do, and they can't do anything else other than that at the moment.
if ntl's dns servers aren't picking up the web-mania dns servers then i think it should be sorted as its not just me whos having problems.

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
It only affects people who either have been to the old site themselves or are in the same general are of someone who has, so it must be a proxy issue. Any ways to force a refresh?

Re: DNS Server Refresh Rate
Try using ctrl+f5 when looking at the site.
Or try typing "ipconfig /flushdns" at a prompt and they going to the site.
