W2K Sever logon Record/report
Hi,
I run a W2k Server Domain in work & i need to be able to record when certain computers logon. I am looking for something that would generate a report similar to below. This is based in a servcie factory therefore i can have upto 25 machines using the same logon but each has a different computer name.
03/06/2004 08:00 Fenway2-nff Fenway2-001
03/06/2004 08:02 Fenway2-fin Fenway2-003
03/06/2004 08:02 Fenway2-nff Fenway2-025
03/06/2004 10:00 Fenway2-nff Fenway2-001
1st Columb: Date & Time
2nd Columb: Logon Name
3rd COlumb: Computer Name
Does this exist?
thanks,
Steve

Re: W2K Sever logon Record/report
By default Event Viewer only logs failed logon attempts under the "security" log. To enable all logon/logoff details you need to enable a security audit as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300549
You can then use the resulting log in whatever report you wish to generate.

Re: W2K Sever logon Record/report
You could just write a logon script in Kix to do it - I use this at work - all user logons are added to a series of text files detailing all sorts of information like computername, username, date, time, current AV version, windows version (inc service pack), memory & processor details, IP address etc.

Kix32 Ideal for task - www.kixstart.org
Something along the lines of:
IF @USERID = "ACCOUNT"
LOGEVENT(0,999,"Logon OK - "+@DATE+" "+@TIME+" - "+@WKSTA
ENDIF
Basically, if "ACCOUNT" logs on then Log an event in the event log - 0 = Success Audit, 999 = Message ID, etc.
Find the manual @ http://www.kixstart.org/bin/KIX2001.doc

Re: W2K Sever logon Record/report
you have all lost me now.. the only scripting i currently use is .bat files for the logon scripts. i have one per logon to map their network drive & copy across updates.
what are kix scripts & where do you use them.. do you just cal them in the active directory under the lgon script function?

Check out the link in my original post - This is where you'll be able to download it along with a manual
You can run it from within a batch (.bat) file using the syntax kix32 <scriptfile>
You have one script per user? - Perhaps you should review this at somepoint, perhaps using Kix to do the per user stuff for you allowing you to have a common script for all users.
VBScript is another alternative, but if you're limits are currently batch files you'll be OK with KIX
Good luck
