Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Interesting to see the config file is provisioning 32.2mb down and 1.11mb up. Looks like the 50mb-style overprovisioning (presumably for speed test purposes) is still happening.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
And setting it higher so people get closer to what is advertised is an issue because.....?

I missed this post sorry.
That explains why it was initially green but went blue later when the guy was working on it.
I suggest you feed this back to the activation team because on my first call the lady specifically asked about this light, when I told her was green she answered thats good. So tell them to ask if its blue and it may save some people some headaches.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Ordered online yesterday and got the email today confirming that we will be getting it from the 11th. it says tech install, but I am unsure as there are mixed messages saying this is actually self install (modem delivered by HDN) but the emails are saying tech.

Your Installation
We're sending one of our technicians round on 11/02/11 between ALLDAY to install your Virgin Media services. It should only take about two hours to get all the equipment up and running.

I never said it's an issue, just said it's interesting. And it's certainly not there so people get closer to what is advertised. There is no reason or need to set the config file higher in order to get closer to what is advertised, if anything it makes people get further away than what is advertised.
Someone said in the past 50mb was over-provisioned as it was their flagship product and they wanted it to look better in speed tests for marketing reasons.
Presumably they did the same to 30mb as they're pitching it vs 40mb FTTC, and arguing they expect people to achieve faster average speeds on it. So it looks like they're attempting to artificially inflate speedtest results in order to validate that claim. Add an extra 2.2mbps to your speed test results and of course your product will look better vs. the competition. Not to say it's a bad thing - the customer ends up with a higher average speed - but it's a sneaky marketing ploy if you ask me.

Mine was delivered by HDN it was easy to setup and the speeds I'm getting now are 30mb down and 3mb up.

Yes if you require new kit, for 12 months. (If anyone has an 18 month contract and has over 12 months to go on it then the end of the minimum term wouldn't change)
No, however depending on your current minimum term your broadband may remain under a new minimum term for longer than the other services
Differences are here http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/tra...nt-policy.html (As with the other services, a different upload policy applies depending if you have the faster upload or not)

Thanks for that exactly what I needed to know.
Now dont like using the phone but want to deal with a human rather than the automated upgrade service for this so whats the number I would be best ringing? I'm okay if I know I'm getting through to the right place.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
I ordered 2 days ago the lady in sales told me she would phone me back and she hasn't bothered.
So I don't think I will bother if they can't do a simple thing like taking an order.

Or you could just do the simple thing and phone them back yourself?
