If only , reading the comments I'm pretty sure the majority are VM subscribers but I'm sure you know that

Re: Is Sky Atlantic overhyped ?
I have had Sky Atlantic HD since it launched on Sky and would like to add a couple of points.
1. Yes there are some very good programs on it (which is inevitable as it is Sky's flagship channel),but as with every channel the content is not to everyones taste.
2. Is it over hyped?,in my opinion it is not, but, you only have to read on here the reaction not having the channel on Virgin Media has on people.
I personally hope Virgin Media do get the channel, fix the red button issues etc,etc and then I can wave goodbye to Sky for good and have all my services with VM.

The real issue here is that for those of us on VM, freeview, freesat, we don't know what we are missing, if anything, as these shows haven't made it to more accessible channels and unless you subscrfibe to more unauthorised aquisition methods you have no idea if it is or is not of quality.
Thus of the voters who so far say it is overhyped or not, I assume you are mostly satellite TV subscribers rather than other digital TV users.

In the unlikely event you don't have the box set, Band of Brothers is currently being re shown on TCM.

Sky Atlantic also show Mad Men, one of the best tv shows in the world in my opinion!

I agree. It is about as good (or as bad depending on how you look at it) as a basic pay tv channel should be.
Along with channels such as Sky1, FX, Sky Living and a few others this channel probably forms the upper end of the basic pay tv channels. The majority of the good shows on first run only exist on a hand full of channels and Atlantic is one of them.
I can see why Sky put out this channel but it is no better than any of the most popular channels in its class of channels so I can't see why Sky don't just take VM's money.

To be fair we don't know what VM are offering , maybe Sky feel there's more benefit as an exclusive over what's being offered.

Not all of HBO's current programming is on SKY Atlantic.
True Blood - FX & Channel 4
The Ricky Gervais Show - Channel 4
Hung - More4
24/7 - 5* & BoxNation
Eastbound & Down - FX

Re: Is Sky Atlantic overhyped ?
So, in summary to the OP's question - some think it is, some don't, and some don't care......

Shows with existing deals, such as True Blood, were excluded from the Sky/HBO deal. I believe that FX actually has the lifetime pay-TV rights to True Blood...
... which is a shame, really, given how far behind the US the FX broadcasts are. At least if it was on Atlantic, people (well, those with Sky ) wouldn't have to wait ages to see it.

I agree - with the economic times we are living through - surely Sky and VM have a vested interest in keeping the overall number of Subscriptions ( for Sky+VM) up as high as they can ( overall advertsing )
they need to co-operate very closely
I read somewhere that the number of subscriptions in the USA for linear TV ( ie Sky / VM channels ) is falling rapidly
a United Front is needed from SKY/VM ( ie put Sky Atlantic on VM etc etc ) or it could go the same way here

Yes because they have Hulu (Plus) and Netflix which is essentially premium catchup and older shows. You can access pretty much any episode of any show and a boatload of films for something like $20 a month.
But the UK have a different TV model than the US and quite a lot of Sky and VM customers are watching the football so they can't be compared IMO.
